Well known sculptor Lungelo Dlamini has been asked by Ricky Rick’s family to take down the svulpture he made of the late artist. So unhappy was the family they asked Gumede to take down the sculpture.

Lungelo Gumede made the sculpture to honour the late musician and producer, instead it has brought him unwanted attention.

Ricky Rick, father of two, died on Wednesday, 23 February and was laid to rest on Tuesday 01 March. His memorial service will be held today, 04 March.

Gumede shared the images of the sculpture online going as far as ask8ng fans of Rick to come and view it for free. According to reports this move angered the Makhado family.

According to Ricky’s brother, Themba, the family is still mourning his passing and the sculpture came too soon. In his own defence Lungelo stated that Rick was a public figure and his family does not understqnd his work.

Lungelo also stated that the family allowed Big Zulu to write a tribute song about him and also allowed Rasta to paint him at the funeral.

“Why shouldn’t I be allowed to do my work on him as an artist?”

“I fail to understand but maybe they felt the wax statue was real when they saw it on social media.”

“When one looks at the wax statue, it’s like they are looking at the real him”

He further said that the statue is covered with paper where it’s displayed out of respect for the Makhado family.

Do you think Lungelo should respect the family’s decision and take down his work or he has a point in
