After his recent appearance on Podcast and Chill with MacG, during which he broke down in tears about his financial woes, the fall from grace of South African vocalist Dr. Malinga has become a topic of discussion in the social media.
Many of his devoted followers, who are familiar with the incredible but unassuming path that led him to stardom, were taken aback by this news.
Malinga entered the entertainment industry by complete accident in 2011, when he was featured on Dj Choice’s Cassanova hit. The following year, he won the Record of the Year award at the South African Music Awards.
The Story of How Dr. Malinga Made Millions, Only to Lose It All in One Night
It was in 2013 when his singles, such as Mahoota’s club anthem Via Orlando, began to make real waves across Southern Africa that he began to see financial success.
He made millions on the way.
But all went to bad when agents from the South African Revenue Service broke into his house earlier in 2022 and stripped him of all of his possessions in order to satisfy the debts that he had accumulated over the course of many years.
This was the first time that the general public was given a glimpse into the troubled entertainer’s personal life.
He argues that the burden was to be put on his accountant who improperly advised him regarding investments and tax avoidance.
“My accountant failed to advise me accordingly until it was too late, and I ended up accumulating the R2.1 million owed to Sars,” he explained to the Chillers. “My accountant failed to advise me accordingly until it was too late.”
Despite the fact that he claims to have invested some of his millions in homes and estates that he is currently selling in Pretoria, all of his money streams dried up during the Covid-19 rise that hit economies all over the world.
Speaking to MacG and Sol, Malinga further claimed that the black tax has devastated him and forced him lose money supporting his family members.
To add on to the salt, Maling is currently being owed royalties for the tracks he has done before with some artists including his part of the share from Via Orlando.
After news of his demise, some of Malinga’s contemporaries in the music industry have extended their hands to support him in cash and kindness. A number of musicians, including Makhadzi and Black Coffee, have made financial contributions in the hopes of putting an end to his suffering.
