The Springboks played their final Rugby World Cup tournament in Paris, France against New Zealand on Saturday, 28 October. In a video that has since gone viral on TikTok, social media users had a field day after noticing the lights went off during the highly-anticipated game in Europe.
‘RWC’: SOUTH AFRICANS REACT TO ‘LOAD SHEDDING’ IN FRANCE
While many could argue that load shedding has become a norm in South Africa at this point, not many expected to see the lights go off in Paris – and during a World Cup game no less. Several South Africans were convinced France experienced load shedding on Saturday when the lights suddenly went off for a brief moment during the Rugby World Cup final at the Stade de France stadium. Netizens have since rushed to the comment section busting jokes about how load shedding followed the Boks to Paris.

The Springboks arrived at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after their victorious participation in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. And, they received a warm hero’s welcome as they walked through the airport for the first time as the fourth-time Rugby World Cup champions. They were showered with praise and embrace by a good number of South Africans who braved the weather to welcome them back to Mzansi.
However, it is a bittersweet moment for South Africans as the end of the tournament also means that things will be going back to normal. For example, load shedding was previously paused for South Africans to be able to watch the final uninterrupted, Jacaranda FM reported.
