The death of Kwezi Ndlovu’s character, Nobuntu, in Umkhovha left viewers devastated.

Because of her mother Mamzobe (Deli Malinga), Nobuntu swallowed poison in the last episode.

 
Because she was forced to carry out her mother’s nefarious schemes against her will despite her protests, she ended up taking her own life.

On social media, spectators hoped that the poison wouldn’t kill her in the previous episode, and that the upcoming episode would provide good news about her escaping death.

On the other hand, things didn’t go as planned on December 19th.

While watching the performance, Umkhokha has initiated the hashtag #RIPNobuntu on its social media sites.

“We announce the passing of our daughter, Nobuntu Gumede, with heavy hearts. It said, “Hamba kahle Ma Qwabe, Phakathwayo, Mnguni Ke Yeye,” to which the speaker replied.

Kwezi spoke to the journal two weeks ago about playing Nobuntu, a character who was dealing with despair. The character she created, she thought, would serve as a role model for those dealing with mental health issues.

Playing the character was extremely difficult because it’s a real-life subject that I need to perform correctly. Real individuals experience this, and I needed to convey it accurately so that others who are experiencing the same thing know they aren’t the only ones in the same situation. When it comes to mental health, “I hope that people who are suffering can find the courage to speak up,” she stated.

“It’s not simple to walk around and do this because the emotions are so heavy. I had to truly get into character. It meant a lot of growth and learning for me, and I loved every minute of it,” she says.
