RIP: Luxury bag icon Jane Birkin dies at 76

On Sunday, 16 July, the British-born French singer, actress, and fashion icon Jane Birkin who the Hermes brand Birkin bag is named after passed away at 76 years in her home in France, The Guardian reported.


 

 

Jane Birkin was born in London on 14 December 1946. It was reported that she came from a successful family as her father David Birkin was a commander in the Royal Navy, and her mother Judy Campbell was the muse of a famous British playwright, Noël Coward.

Jane Birkin moved to France at the age of 20 years without even knowing the French language, CNN reported. Fortunately, she became well acquainted and famous pretty quickly. And, was reportedly dubbed as France’s favourite “anglaise.” She also found herself in the arms of French actor and singer Serge Gainsbourg and they also quickly became a widespread fascination in Europe and in other parts of the world.“Because she embodied freedom, [and] because she sang the most beautiful words of our language, Jane Birkin was a French icon. A complete artist, her voice was as sweet as her engagements were fiery. She bequeaths us tunes and images that will never leave us,” the Tweet read.
