Mampintsha’s Professional Path

Mampintsha was well-known for his time spent with Big Nuz as well as his work since the group’s dissolution in 2015, when he launched a solo career.

Big Nuz
Big Nuz is a musical group that was established in 2002 by Mandla Maphumulo, also known by his stage name Mampintsha, Mzi, also known as Danger, and Sbu, also known as Mashesha. They were brothers and grew up together in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, which is where the band got its name, which comes from the prefix of the license plates on all vehicles that are registered in Umlazi.

They moved to Johannesburg shortly after forming the band in the expectation of landing a record deal there. They had the opportunity to perform a jingle on a television series called Backstage on e.Tv during the same year. A recording contract was offered to them as a result of their performance.

Problems arose for them with their record label as a result of their collaboration with Koli Lebone and Beatmaker on the recording of music that was ultimately not released.

Ishmael, a Kwaito giant at the time, collaborated with them in 2004 to create the song Boom Boom, which featured the artist’s participation.

Big Nuz continued their journey by signing a recording contract with Gallo Records in 2006. That same year, they released their debut album, Zozo, on which they collaborated with artists such as Kid Mokoena of Why Not Entertainment. Gallo Records was criticized for their poor management after the album’s sales failed to meet expectations, and the label was blamed for the album’s poor performance.

When they realized that things weren’t going the way they expected in Johannesburg, they headed back to Durban to collaborate with the incredible DJ Tira.

They put in some work on their first song, which was called “Uyoysholo Wena.” They joined the Afrotainment recording label in 2008 and signed a contract with the company. The record label 2nd Round Knockout was responsible for the release of the band’s second album.

After selling more than 20,000 copies of the album in South Africa, the band switched management, and their sales have since improved to meet their expectations. They had by this point built up a fan base all over the country, and word was starting to spread that they were on their way to becoming the new kings of Kwaito.

They started getting invited to perform at award shows and eventually had the opportunity to perform at the South African Music Awards in 2008, where they did so during the opening ceremony performance. They also started getting invited to perform at other award shows. During the course of the awards show, they were also presented with an award for song of the year.

Big Nuz went back into the studio to record their third album, Undisputed, with the help of DJ Fisherman and DJ Tira after a year filled with performing and winning awards in 2008. On this album, Big Nuz also featured collaborations with other DJs.

The song “Umlilo” from the album was recognized as the South African Music Awards’ Song of the Year, and the band’s album, “Undisputed,” was awarded the prestigious platinum certification for sales exceeding a million copies.

In 2015, they issued their final album as a band, which was titled For the Fans and was released to the public. The announcement that the founding member R. Mashesha had passed away at the age of 34 came shortly after the release of the album, which was accompanied by other unfortunate news.

Big Nuz didn’t hold back when it came to releasing the album, but this time around, it was done so in Mashesha’s honor. The group won the award for Best Duo or Group of the Year thanks to the success of the album, which also won the award for Best Kwaito album of the year. Both awards were presented to Mashesha by the organization.

Solo Artist

As a result of the death of one of their members, they decided to disband Big Nuz, and Mamnpitsha embarked on a career as a solo artist. In the course of his career, he focused on expanding his reputation by means of his record label, which was known as West Ink record label. Throughout his career as a solo artist, he has collaborated with a variety of musicians and signed them to his record label.

Babes Wodumo was the most successful of the artists he signed from KwaZulu-Natal. However, he signed the majority of the artists from the province. In 2016, the two of them collaborated on the smash hit song “Wololo,” which helped propel Babes’ career to the top of the charts.

Jo’burg, one of the songs that helped establish his career as a solo musician, was one of the songs that he released in 2019. This song is a reflection on where he came from and their early days making music together with Big Nuz.

Mampintsha Assault Claims
There was a video that went viral on social media that purported to show Babes Wodumo being assaulted by her boyfriend Mampintsha. The video was filmed during an incident that allegedly took place. The video was captured by Babes Wodumo on her Instagram live feed while she was performing.

When Mampinstha was questioned about the incident, he posted a response on his Facebook page and issued a statement, saying

“Nothing is what it seems, including everything that you hear and everything that you see. I have made the decision to refrain from further discussion of this matter beyond this statement out of respect for the relationship that we had and for the people who supported us.

Babes filed a complaint of assault, but the alleged perpetrators failed to appear in court when they were scheduled to do so. By the time they were scheduled to appear in court, the charges had been dropped against Babes.

Natasha Kara, a spokesperson for the NPA, stated that the matter was withdrawn as a result of the parties’ adherence to the ADR Process, which led to the withdrawal.

The issue was resolved in such a way that the charge brought against Maphumulo was dropped. This is because both parties stayed true to the alternative dispute resolution [mediation] processes they agreed to.”

Mampintsha’s manager, Lindo “Dogg DBN” Buthelezi, also confirmed that his client, Mampintsha, had withdrawn the assault charges against Babes Wodumo.

Controversy Regarding the Mampintsha
Money scandal

According to the allegations, the Gqom musician ran off with R20,000 worth of owner Bhekani Ndlovu’s money from Gesh Lounge and Entertainment.

Mampintsha was scheduled to perform at the Weekend Shutdown on December 29, but it appears that the musician did not show up and did not entertain his legion of devoted followers.

“Mampintsha informed me that he was booked for another gig here in Empangeni and that he would be more than happy to come to Gesh Lounge afterwards. According to what he told Daily Sun, “he demanded that I pay R20,000 before the event.”

Mampintsha was said to have received R10 000 in advance on the 20th of December. He also allegedly demanded that the organizers create a poster with his face on it for promotional purposes, which they did.

The organizer reported that the host had said something along the lines of, “A day before the event, he demanded that I pay the remaining balance, otherwise he wouldn’t come.” On the same day, December 28th, I made an additional payment of R10,000.” According to Ndlovu, both payments were made to a FNB account that was designated for Tshomza Construction.

However, on the day of the event, he received a call from a man named Phila who asserted that he was Mampintsha’s coworker. This caused him to raise his eyebrows. According to Phila, Mampintsha vanished without a trace after giving a performance in Stanger.

Reality show prevented from airing

Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo, his girlfriend at the time, collaborated on the production of a reality show that was going to be called Impilo and document the couple’s relationship.

The documentary series titled “Impilo: Mampintsha WestInk” had the intention of providing viewers with information regarding the relationship between Gqom’s most famous couple. The reality show was advertising itself as one that would reveal everything and let Mzansi into the couple’s personal sphere. Mzansi was shocked when it saw the trailer for the show, which featured scenes from the show that exposed the troubled relationship between the two of them.

Many people were of the opinion that because their relationship was fraught with so much abuse, it was inappropriate for this topic to be discussed on television.

The audience can rest assured that Moja LOVE places a high value on telling South African stories and being transparent thanks to the statement that was released.

Their statement included the following part:

“Because of Jub Jub’s close relationship with Mampintsha and Babes, he wanted to give the couple the chance to discuss the abuse incident and clear their names. Today, the couple made the decision to file a lawsuit in order to prevent the interview from being broadcast.

Mampintsha and Babes eventually showed up to express their regrets and explain the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the show.

The following is a transcription of the caption that accompanied their post on Instagram:

“As you are well aware, the past few days have been challenging for all of us, including our fans and members of our family, as a direct result of content that has been posted on social media about us. Your comments and expressions of disappointment in us have been noted, and we have taken them very seriously.

Your disappointment is a source of deep regret for us, and we want you to know that we only seek to entertain you during times when you are experiencing disappointment; we do not seek to do the opposite. As your source of entertainment and, at times, inspiration, we make it our top priority to maintain a positive image in your eyes at all times.
