RIP: Amapiano artist DJ Sumbody has died

The death of musician and businessman DJ Sumbody has been confirmed by his family and his label, Sumsounds Music Management.

The passing of amapiano musician Dj Sumbody has shaken the South African music industry.


 

 

 

Iyamemeza’s true name is Oupa John Sefoka, and his management has released a statement saying he passed away early on Sunday, November 20.

Musician and visual artist DJ Sumbody has passed away. The musician known as Oupa John Sefoka allegedly met with a tragic accident that resulted in his death in the early hours of Sunday, November 20, 2022,” stated the statement.

In addition, his management has stated that, as investigations into his death are still ongoing, they are unable to provide any additional information at this time.

In a statement, Sumsounds Music Management and the Sefoka family said, “We ask for your privacy at this time and will have more to say when the time is right.”

The funeral and memorial service for DJ Sumbody will be announced at a later time.

There are reports that the musician was shot and killed.

Ayepyep Lifestyle’s management hasn’t said what killed the co-owner, but social media users have said they’ve heard he was shot.

Nota Baloyi, a controversial podcast contributor and ex-music executive, claimed that “Khuli Chana got shot by the cops… DJ Sumbody got shot by his opps [enemies].”

Twitter user @MpumalangaPost posted a graphic image of a bullet-riddled car with the caption, “It alleged that our loved DJ Sumbody was gunned down last night with his two bodyguards at Woodmead, Gauteng.”
