It is the final week of Rhythm City. The soapie has been on the air for 13 years. It premiered on the county’s free-to-air channel e.tvon 9 July 2007 as a replacement for the now-defunct youth-targeted soap opera, Backstage.
Cancellation
e.tv had announced that the telenovela will air its final episode on 16 July 2021 with a new local drama taking up its spot. The show captivated the viewer for a decade as it took South Africans on the journey of authentic storytelling while simultaneously launching the careers of many unknown faces and some now famously talented musicians. The decision to cancel the show is part of a business strategy, which includes reviewing a show’s on-air life cycle.
Ending
In the past few months, the soapie started to give its audience a brief of suspense. Pearl started to blackmail the Ndlovu’s as she had evidence of Suffocate killing her dad. She had them where she wanted and used Mzi’s love for his dad to get him to do bad things. As the situation revealed itself, we saw Suffocate Ndlovu handing himself to the police, leaving his family vulnerable.
Final episode spoiler
