basis. What makes it more painful is that they are being killed by people who they trust. As women, it is our duty as men to protect our ladies, but we have turned to be something that needs protection from. Every day we wake up to hear about a woman who has been killed.
In most cases, relationships are the primary source of gender-based violence; women are getting killed by their lovers. This usually happens when a man is in denial that the relationship is no more. Many men don’t take break ups well. They become violent and abusive when a lady initiates a break up. Cry for our beloved country. Pray for our sisters because they are being preyed on like animals.
Recently, there is a heartbreaking story of a young lady who was y a bitter ex-boyfriend who couldn’t accept a breakup. He was killed here in a very cruel and painful way. On September 6th, a woman named Dimpho Skelenge, who was 28 years old and from Caledon in the Western Cape, was brutally killed. Dimpho relocated from Ashton to Caledon in order to begin a new job and also to get away from her ex-boyfriend, who refused to acknowledge that they had ended their relationship. Dimpho’s ex-boyfriend would not accept that they were no longer a couple. Her previous partner, who she claims was abusive, apologized to her in person at her new residence by bringing flowers and a bottle of wine. After she refused to acknowledge his apology, he stabbed her to death. He has been taken into custody.
This guy is cruel. What is happening to South African men? They are turning on animals that prey on women. We need to have a men’s conference where we will teach each other and raise awareness against gender-based violence. Even the law must increase punishment for gender-based violence perpetrators, because our sisters cannot live in fear every time. May her soul rest in peace and may justice be served.
