Rapper extraordinaire Gigi Lamayne’s celebrity status didn’t shield her from being targeted by cyberbullies.
She was bullied for not being conventionally beautiful in mainstream media.
Because of this, her self-esteem took a knock and resulted in her being scared of posting pictures on social media.
Speaking to Sunday Sun, the star said every time she wanted to post something on her social media platforms, she wondered what people would say.“I was once called a sub-human. That’s enough to traumatise anyone who doesn’t have thick skin,” she said.
She said even though some people, who were responsible for bullying have come forward to ask for forgiveness, it was futile and a little too late.“Khanyi Mbau is someone, who helped me overcome so much because she lives her truth. She is as hard as steel and presents herself as a strong and fearless woman.”There are women who preach feminism and yet break women down every day,” the 25-year-old explained.
Gigi said what she has discovered about cyberbullies is that they are lonely people, who are “empty and feel unloved”.
