R.I.P | Former PSL title winner Joseph ‘Stimela’ Baloyi has passed away.

Joseph “Stimela” Baloyi, a former PSL champion, has passed away.He was 51 Baloyi passed away on Monday while at his home in Limpopo, only a few hours after being released from a provincial hospital.

His family has informed them that he was admitted on August 15 after complaining of stomach discomfort.

While a funeral service was scheduled for Thursday evening in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, where he worked as a building manager for Mafadi Properties, his funeral will take place on Saturday close to Solomondale, Limpopo.


 

 

 

Baloyi began his career with Bosveld United after being born in Solomondale, Limpopo, and transferred to Real Rovers at the start of 1995, the same year that the Zimbabwean trio of John Phiri, Misheck Mapika, and Austin Juwayeyi joined the team.

Former PSL champion diesShepherd Murape, Andries Sebola, Rellie Mola, Alex Bapela, Timothy Nkosi, Mandla Mabena, Gerald Raphahlela, and Mwila Kambuania were all members of Rovers at the time he joined the team.

After Bapela went for Sundowns, he continued to play for Rovers until the end of the 1997–98 season, serving as captain.

Baloyi subsequently relocated to Jomo Cosmos for the subsequent year.

He relocated to Mother City after a season, but left in the middle of the campaign to join Santos in January 2000.

He was a member of a group of defensive giants at Santos during his greatest season, including Musa Otineo, John Mbidzo, Edries Burton, and Jean Sebastien Bax, at a time when Naisef Morris was on the rise.

Santos won the title in the 2001–2002 season, and he participated in one game before departing at the conclusion of the season to join Black Leopards in his own country.He spent one season (2002–2003) at Leopards before moving to City Pillars in the first division, where his career came to an end.

He made 210 starts and eight goals while playing professional football.
