Smuggling stolen animals from South Africa to other countries is illegal and can have some negative consequences. The animals may be taken from their natural habitats, causing harm to local ecosystems and disrupting the balance of nature. In addition, many of these animals are endangered, so their removal from the wild can contribute to their extinction.

 

 

 

 
Recently, two males were stopped for travelling unlawfully with rabbits, peacocks, Chinese geese & birds. They are going from the Vaal to Maputo. Officers on the ground call this animal cruelty. Reports say that not all items reflect on the receipt, so charges of suspected stolen goods will be laid.

Furthermore, smuggled animals may suffer from poor living conditions during transport, and may not receive proper care or nutrition once they reach their destination. Additionally, smuggled animals may be sold into illegal wildlife trade and used for commercial gains such as hunting, trophy or traditional medicine.

Finally, smuggling stolen animals also have economic consequences, as it can undermine legitimate conservation efforts and can reduce the population of animals taken from Mzansi, which can negatively impact tourism and other industries.

To combat this problem, our law enforcement agencies can increase patrols and surveillance in areas known for animal smuggling, and increase penalties for those caught smuggling animals. Hopefully, with the right actions, animal smuggling could be a thing of the past in Mzansi.

In the meantime, we need to be vigilant so we can catch these animal smugglers that don’t have any regard for the laws of Mzansi. Hopefully, we will win this fight against them.
