Football is often considered as a short career.

Upon retirement, footballers face the arduous task of rebuilding their lives. It is never an easy feat as age would have quickly caught up with them.

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Shaun Permall found his calling in the uniformed force were he is now serving as a police office.

Tough as teak during his playing days, Permall recently told KickOff magazine that he had never imagined he would one day become a cop.

Having played for Kaizer Chiefs in 2001, Permall worked at Absa as a bank teller after his retirement from football. He retired at the young age of 27.

Coincidentally he was encouraged to apply after he had accompanied someone to the police station for voluntary work.

He now serves the country with pride and just as tough as he was on the football field, he is tough on criminals.

“I write fines, arrest people and do whatever is required as a law enforcement officer,” he concluded.

Now that is indeed a career few footballers will manage to weave into after retirement.
