Busiswa Gqulu, affectionately known as Busi or Busiswa, was born in the scenic town of Mthatha, located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Her birth date graced the 8th of November in 1988, rendering her 32 years of age in the year 2020. While many assume that she adopts a stage name, this talented South African singer and poet embraces her real name, infusing it with passion and authenticity into her music and poetic endeavors.


 

 

 

 

Busiswa’s early years saw her and her family relocating to Durban, South Africa, where her journey of artistic expression began to unfold. At a tender age of 15, her fascination with poetry ignited, leading her to craft heartfelt verses that resonated with her emotions. Even in grade 11, she showcased her talent, delivering her first poetic performance during her grandmother’s interment ceremony.

Through her poetry performances, Busiswa encountered a variety of individuals, including one who introduced her to Sir Bubzin. Her poetic contributions were seamlessly woven into Bubzin’s track, “Syaphambana.” This collaboration paved the way for Busiswa’s musical journey as she signed a recording contract with Kalawa Records, under the stewardship of Oskido. Oskido recognized Busiswa’s potential and encouraged her to record “My Name Is,” a song co-written and produced with DJ Zintle. The popularity of “My Name Is” spurred Busiswa to relocate to Johannesburg, the heart of South Africa’s entertainment industry.
