Youth Day: 5 minutes with actress Buntu Petse

Buntu Petse
Picture: InstagramEmerging actress, Buntu Petse landed her first acting role on one of South Africa’s popular daily soaps, “Generations: The Legacy”.

She plays the character, Nontle, a high school teenager on a mission. She and her best friend Melokuhle lead a big storyline on the show which deals with climate change.

We spoke to the actress to find out more about herself and thoughts on the industry.

What roles do you prefer?

I would play any character and take on any storyline as long as I am being challenged. As an actress I would grow from it.

What do you enjoy about playing Nontle?

Nontle is younger than me yet she has taught me to be brave and speak up.

Being new in the industry, what are your thoughts on #OpenUpTheIndustry?

I’m a new face in the industry so I’m grateful for the movement. It has been influential in that I have been given this opportunity. On the other hand, #OpenUpTheIndustry should go hand in hand with more job opportunities for actors who are already in.

What are some issues facing youth today?

Among many, I find social media has its fair share of issues for the youth. From amplifying peer pressure to prohibiting genuine face to face interaction and social skills. It can be quite dangerous to the mental wellbeing of a young person.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Married, with a child, living in a beautiful home that I own. But more importantly, doing what I love the most. Acting.

You’re industry role models?

I am so lucky to be working with the likes of Samela Tyelbooi and Vusi Kunene.

Your dream role?

A chief detective in my own series. Catching the bad guys!

Any advice for young talent?

Let go of the past, for it only brings sorrow, don’t stress for the future, it’ll only bring you worry. Just take each day as it comes and show up for yourself.

Simphiwe Dana clears the air on helping an alleged abuser

Simphiwe Dana. Picture: InstagramAward-winning musician Simphiwe Dana has set the record straight after she was called out for helping an alleged abuser.

This comes after a social media user hit back at the singer who has been expressing her viewers on gender-based violence on her social media platforms. In a now-deleted tweet, the user said that Simphiwe was being a hypocrite by adding her voice to the outrage after she helped a man that was abusive.

Simphiwe said that at the time of helping him, she did not know he was abusing his partner.

Following the tweeps revelation, many social media users dragged the singer.

Simphiwe went on to say that her biggest disappointment was women who do not believe her because she is a celebrity.

“My biggest disappointment has been women who chose to not believe me because apparently ‘celebrities’ can’t be trusted to tell the truth. Women I adored. When I outed Mohale aboPenxenxe attacked me”, she tweeted.

The dragging did not stop.

See tweets below. The hitmaker, who recently released the critically acclaimed album, “Bamako”, then penned a thread detailing how she helped the accused abuser and how after finding out he had abused his girlfriend, outed him.

“I’m explaining this for the very last time. I’m not sure why it’s not clear but here we go. My sibling got a call from her best friend at the time, Mohau, frantic, saying that he was in jail in Kenya and that his passport was confiscated. My sibling was also frantic”, she said

LOOK: Pusha T becomes a dad

Pusha T attends the Roc Nation pre-Grammy brunch in New York. Picture: Charles Sykes/Invision/AP, Filend his wife Virginia Williams have welcomed their first child into the world, a baby boy named Nigel.

The 43-year-old rapper – whose real name is Terrence Thornton – and his wife Virginia Williams welcomed son Nigel Brixx into the world last Thursday (11.06.20), the couple announced on Instagram.

Pusha shared photos of the new arrival on his account along with the simple caption: “NIGEL BRIXX THORNTON JUNE 11 2020 (sic)”And Virginia shared two pictures of Pusha and Nigel together, including one in which the pair wore matching long-sleeved black T-shirts.

She captioned her post: “MY GUYS! (sic)”

The couple – who married in 2018 – announced they were expecting a baby in December.

At the time, Virginia shared a sonogram photo on Instagram and wrote: “Finally landed my dream job [heart emoji]…World, make way for BABY THORNTON! Arriving Gemini season 2020!! WE ARE OVER THE MOON!!!!!!!!!!!! (sic)”

Pusha famously revealed Drake had become a father to his son Adonis in his 2018 diss track “The Story of Adidon”.

He rapped in the song: “Adonis is your son and he deserves more than an Adidas press run. That’s real. Love that baby, respect that girl.”

The lines led to the ‘Hotline Bling’ hitmaker publicly confirming Sophie Brussaux had given birth to their son Adonis in 2017.

And Drake later accused Pusha of building his “entire career” from their feud.

He said: “He’s just made an entire career off of it. Some people like his music, I personally don’t ’cause I don’t believe any of it. And I like to listen to guys I believe.”

Drake also insisted he doesn’t fret about his beef with Pusha.

He said: “I sleep well at night knowing I didn’t get out-barred.

“It was just, you know, he told the world that the biggest artist at the time has a kid that he hasn’t told you about. I knew, for me, it was over at that point. It wasn’t even about battle rap.”
