Mafikizolo Releases New Single Thandolwethu

Veteran Afro-pop duo Mafikizolo Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Ncinza, is back with a smashing hit titled Thandolwethu. The band is known for its strong afrobeat rooted signature, and the ability to reinvent themselves by constantly collaborating with younger great artists. This can be seen from their collaboration with Uhuru on Khona and on their single Tchelete, which features Nigerian sensation Davido.

Having been able to stay on top of their game for 20 years Theo said, “Music is a universal language, and as a band, we figured that the only way to stay on top is through collaboration”.

Thandolwethu is another successful collabo tale as it is co-written by the amazing artist and songwriter Msaki. “Working with Msaki has been such a blessing, she is a gifted artist and an exceptional writer “said Nhlanhla.

Thandolwethu celebrates the love between two people who never gave up on each other. This single is nothing short of that Mafikizolo sound that will keep fans on their feet.

The song is available on all digital platforms.

Actor Thapelo Mokoena is still mourning the death of his father, veteran football administrator Mike Mokoena, and has penned a heartfelt letter to his dad, reflecting on one of the last conversations they had.

In a blog post on his website, Thapelo recounted how he spoke to his dad just before the lockdown began. He said that during the call his wife asked how Mike was doing and the family became worried when the call was halted because of his father’s health.

“He says he’s not well. It’s up and down. And as I was trying to join in on the conversation he then surprisingly said, ‘Eish Retla boa. I have to go I’m not feeling well.’

“It was from this day that my concern for his health took a whole new angle … knowing my father, I could see it wasn’t easy for him to display weakness. Even with us, his children.”

The actor thanked his mom Nonhlanhla for always being there for her husband and children.

“You have taught us as your children how to love and pray. Through you, we understand what the term super woman means,” he wrote.

Thapelo also posted a moving tribute to his father on Father’s Day, and encouraged his siblings to continue Mike’s legacy.

“We didn’t make it to today in the physical, but we will still honour you and your memory for many Father’s Days to come. As dark, tough and complicated as these days are, one can only sit and be grateful for the blessing of a father in this life.”

Actress Ayanda Borotho has revealed how it’s like being a mother to her daughter, Ayaphiwa Ngubane, who she’s dubbed a “rebel queen”.

In recent months the actress has been at the forefront of conversations that help empower women and the power they possess.

With a picture of her sassy looking daughter, the actress took to Instagram and shared the meaning of “rebel queen”, which she believes her Ayaphiwa is a true testament of.

Like taking an extract from her book, Unbecoming To Becoming, Ayanda added that she talks in more details of what she means by that phrase “rebel queen” in chapter 14 of her book that she believes her daughter embodies.

“It talks to raising girl children in our era and the system put in place to suppress their power … my daughter is one such Queen. Train them young to own their power It’s no secret that Ayanda and her daughter share a close bond and they emphasised that on her YouTube series called Conversations With Our Daughters.

In one of the episodes, Ayanda speaks about a patriarchy-driven world and women who disempower other women to empower themselves.

During her talk, Ayanda and Ayaphiwa touched on beauty standards and the notion that patriarchy thrives on the oppression of women.

“Patriarchy has actually divided women and thrives on our ignorance, identity and power as women. That’s the biggest thing patriarchy has been able to do, which is to write a narrative for women. As a result, it excluded women from writing their own narrative that will allow them to own their own power.”
