Fans of hit SABC1 soapie Uzalo witnessed a wedding with a difference on Monday when the show’s Nonka tied the knot with Sbonelo.

The handsome smooth-talker had managed to manipulate both Nonka, played by Thuthuka Mthembu, and Philile (Tee Xaba), into accepting his marriage proposals, causing some real drama.

Sbonelo is in love with both women and is not willing to let either of them go, much to the distress of many.Thuthuka told TshisaLIVE the storyline was filled with emotion, but her character’s relationship with Sbonelo had always been turbulent.

“The entire relationship on its own has been very turbulent. It has been such an emotional journey for Nonka from the start and this was just an extension of that,” she explained.

The wedding took place during the global Covid-19 pandemic and the show’s creators went some way to show this, having guests keep social distancing and wearing masks.

Thuthuka admitted that plans for the wedding had to be changed because of the virus, and said they now better reflected what the whole nation was going through.

“There are a lot less people than originally planned. There is a lot of social distancing, masks and even sanitising before we get the rings. This is the new normal and we have to reflect that on the show.”

I am prepared to go to jail or be arrested – Chicco Twala threatens ministers, Nathi Mthethwa & Stella Ndabeni

Minister Nathi MthethwaLegendary musician and businessman Chicco Twala has vowed to “get arrested” and “go to jail” if government doesn’t stop the “thugs” or “bastards” from allegedly stealing local artists’ royalties.

Twala made these chilling threats in a letter to Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Communication and Digital Technologies Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel, asking them to act swiftly before he takes the law into his own hands. In the letter Twala said he received threats from Independent Music Performance Rights Association (IMPRA) leader Dodo Monamodi after raising concerns about the R10-million they received from the SABC to pay needle royalties to artists.

“I have received a threatening letter from these bastards stating that if I continue to interfere with their business, they will take action against me. In less formal instances, they even boast that they are untouchable because they are friendly with and play golf with ministers and government officials,” reads the letter.

“Regarding the threats made against my person, I have made it abundantly clear that threats and intimidation will not stop me from expressing my views and their corruption.

Twala said Monamodi and his disciples’ intention was to divert the royalties to ghost artists under the pretext that it was for their COVID-19 relief fund. He even reported them to SABC CEO Madoda Mxakwe.Nathi Mthethwa
