Andile Ramaphosa trends over R6m “tender”

Andile RamaphosaOn Tuesday morning, Twitter was in a tizz over rumours that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s son had received a R6m ‘tender’ to equip taxis with Covid-19 ventilation…
The Twitter storm accused Andile Ramaphosa of corruption, and benefitting from the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the source of the controversy was an article by Business Insider which was headlined “Gauteng taxis are being fitted with anti-Covid tech in a R6m project – led by Ramaphosa’s son“.The project – which will cost R6m – is actually being headed up by non-profit organisation Supplier Development Initiatives (SDI). The organisation was founded by Andile Ramaphosa, and Brad Fisher in partnership with FNB and Bridge TAccording to the organisation’s mandate, “We focus on providing market access & market participation as the most critical step towards developing Black suppliers. Providing Black suppliers with avenues to trade their products and services with large corporates whilst growing their business.”

Co-founder Brad fisher was interviewed on eNCA about the taxi safety equipment:
“If people sit in an environment where there’s no ventilation, the viral load will increase. In just 20 minutes, people will get sick,” said Brad Fisher in an interview with eNCA three days ago. It’s urgent that the taxis are fitted with an air ventilation system and a barrier between the driver and the passengers,” says Fisher. “The driver will see around 2000 people per month, so the first thing we’ve got to do is separate the driver from the people.”The organisation is also installing a sanitisation station at the door of taxis, and air vents in the windows of the taxis to ensure air flow throughout. According to the Business Insider report, the cost of outfitting each taxi amounts to around R1000 per vehicle. The organisation hopes to equip 6 000 taxis in total. This was confirmed by the Road Traffic Infringement Agency.

On 19 July, the organisation fitted 210 taxis to promote the #safepassagetowork programme.n the interview below, one of the taxi drivers at Bara Taxi Rank whose vehicle has been fitted with the safety equipment says he’s happy with the initiative.

“I am okay about it because it will help protect us from this virus that is making us sick. But the passengers will complain about the air because it is cold,” said the driver.

Ventilation is vital to ensure the safety of all passengers in the vehicle.

Twitter outcry
On Tuesday morning, Andile Ramaphosa was trending as some South Africans believed that the son of the president had received a pricey tender. However, many came out in support of the NGO’s initiative and encouraged those who were complaining to first check their facts.

Baroka FC to be sold after Khurishi Mphahlele failed to pay R15mil debt

Sunday World can exclusively reveal that Limpopo businessman Mosebo Mooa is heading to the Limpopo High Court to obtain a court order to sell Baroka FC after Mphahlele failed to pay him a whopping R15 million for his 15% share in the relegation threatened Absa Premiership outfit.

The explosive details were revealed by a club official who did not want to be named for fear of reprisal.

Relating the story, the official said Mphahlele approached Mooa in 2015 and asked him to loan him R3.8 million as he was cash strapped and struggling to pay players’ salaries and his debtsMooa asked Mphahlele to bring him the club’s audited financial statements so that he could satisfy himself that he was not throwing his money into the sea. “Although the financial books of the club were in shambles, Mooa went ahead and loaned him the money nonetheless. The money was paid in two tranches in a period of two weeks,” shared the official.

The official further explained that Mphahlele later suggested to Mooa that the loan be converted to shares in the club.“When Mooa agreed, Mphahlele suggested he would give him 49% of the shares for the R3.8million and that he would remain with 51%. Mooa refused, saying it would be too greedy for him to accept 49%. He opted for a 15% stake instead,” said the official.

The official said Mooa went to Baroka offices several times until he was turned off by a heated argument in a club meeting between the then club CEO Morgan Mammila and Mphahlele.

“He was just turned off by the level of unprofessionalism displayed in that meeting and decided to retreat a bit. He later left for the UK and returned last year.”

Once back home, Mooa convened a meeting with Mphahlele and told him that he was no longer interested in football and asked him to take back his shares and buy him out of the football club.

When Mphahlele agreed, Mooa acquired the services of evaluators to assess the val ue of the club. The assessors valued the club at R60 million and asked Mphahlele to pay Mooa R15 million, which is the equivalent of his 15% stake.

An agreement to pay Mooa R150 000 a month was drafted and signed by both Mphahlele and the businessman.

“Mphahlele only paid Mooa R300 000 in two instalments and defaulted. A letter of final demand was sent to Mphahlele to pay him all his money or face the full might of the law after he ignored several letters from his lawyers to pay up. But now Mooa’s lawyers are filing papers in court to obtain an order to sell the team so he could recoup his money.”

The final letter of demand, written by Mooa’s lawyer, Lebo Molope of Molope Madondo Attorneys, indicates that Mphahlele has indeed defaulted on his payment. Mphahlele declined to comment.

Twitter has basically spent the last few days dragging DJ Maphorisa for his Smeg-less, messy kitchen, but Phori took it all with a pinch of salt.Image

For a guy known for spicy clap backs and catching feels on the TL over almost anything, Maphorisa showed his followers a different, light-hearted version of himself this past weekend.

The hit maker posted a throwback snap to his 21st birthday party, and tweeps had a field day mocking it.

In the snap, Phori wore a Lacoste shirt, Brentwood-looking pants and Nike sneakers.

All you need to do is look at his face to see the guy was feelin’ himself!

Just when the TL got over Phori and his “rich taxi driver” aesthetic, the DJ posted a picture of himself in his kitchen cooking.

Tweeps not only had a problem with his small kitchen, but also with its messiness.

It was so bad that someone even zoomed into the picture and told Phori he needed to get another metallic pot scrubber because the one in the picture is in ICU.

The tweet of his kitchen got more than 400 comments and retweets, but Phori wasn’t touched.

“Twitter loves perfection, tjo. My kitchen is clean now,” he said as he laughed off the jokes.

Sello Maake-Ncube told Kuli Roberts her acting is ‘too stiff’

Just like people love to hate media personality Kuli Roberts in real life, her latest character on The Queen received both love and heavy criticism alike but Kuli isn’t fazed by any of it, she’s more focused on securing her bag.Kuli Roberts brings feistiness to 'The Queen' with her new role.

The veteran media personality bagged the role on one of Mzansi’s biggest telenovelas after she approached co-producer Connie Ferguson for a job. In a catch-up interview with TshisaLIVE, Kuli reflected on how bringing her character Mildred to life was a blessing and how the criticism she received didn’t move her one bit.

“I’ve hardly watched myself if I’m being honest. I actually never watch myself but I am very grateful that Mildred sparked reaction out of people.”

Kuli said while she’s seen viewers’ reactions to her acting, she was slightly taken aback by one actor in particular who called her up out of the blue.

“I’ve had a lot of positive feedback but Sello Maake-Ncube called up and said, ‘Hayi … you are doing a terrible job, you’re stiff and you should have come to me for master classes …'” she said.

Kuli said she was offended by his approach.

“Look, he called me out of the blue and offered masterclasses. You don’t call a person out of the blue and just unsettle them further but that’s Joburg for you. The cruelty? We take it all the time.”

Known for her brutal honesty, Kuli has been responding to almost every tweet that dissed her work on the telenovela. She said she knew that she brought what was expected of her to the role.

“It was an amazing experience for me. I had the most amazing co-stars and people around me who did amazing work. Both Shona and Connie were amazing too. I have nothing negative to say about anyone on that set.”

However, on Twitter she served up a spicy tweet for the naysayers:
