For some it was the best years of their lives. Top of the food chain, they ran the school from their make-believe thrones.

And for others, it was a miserable time as they were the victims of the fax kings and queens of high school. But whatever your experience may have been, it is likely still one of the years that had such an impact on you.

Hence we sometimes gravitate to TV shows about high schoolers. From the scandalous glamour of “Gossip Girl” and “Elite”; the tragic feeling that was brought by “The O.C”. and the lessons in friendship by “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill”. Who can forget “Riverdale”, “Sex Education”, “Stranger Things”, “Euphoria” and the recently released “Never Have I Ever?” which starts streaming on Netflix, Wednesday May 20, is the second African original from the streaming giant.

Starring Natasha Thahane, with Ama Qamata, Khosi Ngema and Thabang Molaba the trailer dropped this week. Set at Parkhurst College, a prestigious school for Cape Town’s elite scholars and academic overachievers, the story follows the exploits of the intelligent, proactive and impulsive 16-year-old Puleng Khumalo.

Puleng engineered her transfer to Parkhurst College to investigate the 17-year-old cold case of her older sister, who was abducted-at-birth.

The trailer showcases the antics of typical rich kids indulging in alcohol, drugs, big house parties and teenage fights.

Here’s a look at some South African teen dramas that were a hit with the audience.

DJ Black Coffee has responded with gratitude to a video that has surfaced of late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman listing him as one of his favourite artists.

Chadwick died last weekend at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer.

His death sent shock waves across the world, and led to a flood of tributes for the star, including several of the star speaking in interviews.

In one clip, the star spoke about the musicians who inspired him while shooting Black Panther.

After listing some of the greats, including Jay-Z, NAS and Notorious B.I. G, Chadwick mentioned Black Coffee and Drake.

Fans went crazy at the shoutout and flooded Black Coffee’s mentions with the clip.

Black Coffee responded by sharing the video, and thanked Chadwick for allowing him to touch his life.

“Grateful to have been a little part of your life, King” the star Chadwick’s Black Panther co-star Michael B Jordan also paid an emotional tribute to his friend, saying he was still battling to find the right words to express how heartbroken he was.

“I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug, everything. I wish we had more time.” he wrote.

He said one of the last times the pair spoke, Chadwick had told him they were forever linked

“Now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16, you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honour purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not, I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness. I wish we had more time.”

Michael said Chadwick had inspired with his characters in several films and project,s but it was only now that he understood how much of hero he was in real life.

“I wish we had more time. I’m more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage and no regrets.”

Gomora fans think Gladys may regret allowing her insecurities to finally push her over the edge and call time on her marriage.

Fans of the popular telenovela have watched as Gladys allows her mind to make her believe that Melusi is still in love with his high school sweetheart Thati.

Even before she made it clear that Thati’s return to Gomora was messing with her head, viewers had already picked up that she’s not happy to be breathing the same air as her husband’s first love.

After having misdirected her frustration towards Ntokozo and Buhle’s relationship, fans thought Gladys would never be able to work up the courage to reveal what the real thorn in her flesh was.

However, when she told Melusi that she wasn’t willing to fight for their marriage when Melusi is “clearly” still stuck on Thati, fans were not sure what to make of it.

“How can you end your marriage based on a suspicion?” one tweep asked.

“Gladys is always complaining about something or someone. She’s insecure and acts like Melusi cheated on her,” another added.

“Gladys seems to be pushing her family away further and further and unfortunately it won’t end well,” predicted a third.

The one thing fans agree on is that almost everyone on the show seems to be “obsessed” with Thati.

Even though it’s for different reasons, Pretty, Sonto, Gladys and even Mohato all seem to be pressed by Thati’s presence.
