Shauwn Mkhize ex-husband Sbu Mpisane launches a political party

Businessman Sbu Mpisane, who is the estranged husband of Royal AM FC president Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize, has launched his political career.
The former metro police dog unit officer is the national chairperson of a new political organization called the Gap Fixers of South Africa (GFSA).

GFSA was registered by Themba Viros Buthelezi, and Mpisane told ZiMoja that he joined the organization after former President Jacob Zuma was incarcerated for contempt of court at the Escourt Correctional Centre in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) in July 2021.“What hurt me the most was to witness someone who fought for our freedom having his fingerprints taken in prison and jailed thereafter. I was hurting because Zuma was jailed after he didn’t even face a fair trial,” Mpisane said.

“Our Constitution does not favour the black men and women of South Africa. Our people are still living in poverty, 30 years after the black government took over. We want to fix a lot of things in this country. There is a huge gap that doesn’t cover the ordinary people who are the majority voters.”According to their website, GFSA will do away with the tendering system.

“We will eradicate the tendering system and encourage direct absorption of people into the labour market.

“Gap Fixers is not just an organisation, it’s a family, a community of passionate individuals committed to bridging the divide that exists in our society.”

Before Mpisane’s seperation from MaMkhize in 2018, the Durban-based former couple made headlines for fraud allegations linked to dubious government contracts.

In 2013, The Mail and Guardian reported that MaMkhize’s company Zikhulise Cleaning, Maintenance and Transport was awarded three section 36 contracts between July 2012 and March 2013 relating to an Umlazi housing project.

At the time, the Kwa MaMkhize reality TV star faced 53 charges of fraud, forgery and uttering. She was accused of submitting false documents to obtain Construction Industry Development Board gradings, which were used to obtain public works department tenders worth R140K million. The Sunday Times also listed the government tenders MaMkhize was awarded between 2005 and 2012, which were reportedly worth more than R1.1 billion. Some included a R176 million contract awarded by the municipality in KwaDukuza, north of Durban, to build 1980 houses; a R21 million tender, also awarded by the provincial department of public works, to build a clinic in Inanda, north of Durban; and a R26.9-million contract awarded by the KwaZulu-Natal department of public works for the building of Molweni Primary School outside Durban.
