Babes Wodumo seems to be the latest mzansi artist who might face legal action over a missed gig

Gqom star Babes Wodumo seems to be the latest mzansi artist who might face legal action over a missed gig.

Born Bongekile Simelane, Babes shot to stardom after the release of her 2016 viral hit, Wololo. Babes’ success drew in many gigs, including a recent event she was scheduled to perform at in Durban which has landed her in hot water.

Lifestyle establishment Endaweni Shisanyama has legally threatened the self-proclaimed gqom queen to recover an amount of R11,000 after she failed to show up for her performance at their All Black birthday celebration, reports Sunday World.

“After she confirmed her availability, we promised to pay her on the 25th, but we ended up paying her on the 24th as she kept doing follow-ups,” said the establishment.

“To our surprise, after payment the following day, she came back with a voice note saying that her sister Nondu, who does her bookings, mixed up the dates with Johannesburg, and she has three gigs on that side.”

Endaweni Shisanyama further stated that they suspected the above to happen as Babes had not made any promotional videos. “We told the person we were booking through her that if she doesn’t show up, we would like to get a refund, as we won’t need a new date or replacement … We believe all along she’s been in Johannesburg and did not have the intention to come to our event. She took us for a ride and scammed us.”

The above-mentioned publication spoke to Babes, who admitted that Endaweni Shisanyama booked her for the 27th, however, she shared that her manager mixed up the dates.

She said, “I did convey my apology to them, explaining that on the very same day I was supposed to be performing at their event, I had gigs and had to shoot for my TV reality show.”

Babes did not respond to the publication when asked about a refund to avoid legal action.

More trouble for Babes Wodumo as she runs away with R11 000 – Here’s why

Musician Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, is accused of being a scammer. Sunday World reports that a lifestyle establishment in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), called Endaweni Shisanyama, is threatening legal action against the Wololo hitmaker for allegedly running off with R11 000. According to the Endaweni owner, Babes failed to honour her booking for Saturday, 27 January.“After she confirmed her availability, we promised to pay her on the 25th, but we ended up paying her on the 24th as she kept on doing follow-ups,” said Endaweni Shisanyama.“To our surprise, after payment the following day, she came back with a voice note saying that her sister Nondu, who does her bookings, has mixed up the dates with Johannesburg, and she has three gigs on that side. We suspected this, as she didn’t make a promo video.”The owner said that they’ve tried communicating with the gqom singer, however, she is not taking their calls. Asked about the booking, Babes confirmed that it did happen, but blamed her manager for double booking her. She, however, did not respond to questions about refunding Endaweni.

“I did convey my apology to them, explaining that on the very same day I was supposed to be performing at their event, I had gigs and had to shoot for my TV reality show,” said Babes Wodumo. The Shut Up and Groove singer’s reputation has been marred with “no-show” scandals. Last year, three event organisers accused her of not attending gigs despiting being booked.

At the time, Estradini Lifestyle management said she owed them R18 000. In addition, Ora Lifestyle in Pietermaritzburg as well as Second Half Bar and Restaurant in Nquthu, KZN, also wanted their money back.

Babes Wodumo, whose true name is Bongekile Simelane, gained prominence in 2016 with her hit single “Wololo” and was married to Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo until his death in December 2022.

Zuma is relatively new to the scene but has swiftly amassed a following with his own blend of Amapiano and traditional Zulu music. He released his debut album, “Lazaro,” which includes collaborations with various other prominent artists. The two fueled rumors of a romance late last year when they were pictured together at a music event.Since then, they have been seen together at several events and have even attended parties together. According to another source, the pair love each other, and Zuma has been supporting Babes to revive her career.

As some people in their circle called out them for their age gap, they appeared unconcerned. Babes Wodumo is 28, and her lover is 25 years old. She allegedly wanted to finish a full year of mourning and is now ready to move on.

“She is young and is allowed to move on with her lThe couple seemed to be focused on their affection for one another. It must be commenced and implanted on a Godly establishment.”
