‘I knows all the official languages, except Afrikaans’ says etvScandal’s Mdala
Actor James Sithole, who plays Mdala in e.tv’s soapie ‘Scandal!’ is studying sign language, Swahili and knows all the official languages.

The Scandal! actor James Sithole, who is half Tsonga and half Venda reveal to Sunday World that he spoke Sepedi in his household as his family couldn’t choose either of the languages.
“I joined the youth development group as an athlete. I wanted to run, doing distances like the 100 and 200 metres and it happened one day our athletics instructor was not there, so I went to the acting and music class. That is when I fell in love with acting. I immediately knew that’s where I wanted to be.”
The actor, who plays the least favourite character Mdala in the e.tv soapie adds that he studied language practice as he wanted to be a translator at some point in his life.
“I did language practice because I wanted to be an entrepreneur, it was like something I could fall back on. I used to interpret at church, so that’s the reason I wanted to learn to speak many languages. I can safely say I know all the official languages excluding Afrikaans, and I am currently learning Swahili and sign language. “
Speaking to TimesLIVE, in December 2021 the actor James Sithole revealed it was a dream come true for him to join the cast of e.tv’s Scandal! As Mdala.
“I had hoped to see myself in one of the biggest shows on e.tv. I have watched Scandal! since the beginning and my favourite storyline was the one of Mangi doing drugs. I looked up to Sello Maake-ka Ncube and I wanted to be part of the soap and be his other son and fix the life of the brother in the drug crisis.”
“I think people will love to hate him because of his charm and his looks. He’s able to lure people in and seal business deals without anyone questioning anything.
“I sometimes get away with a lot of trouble because of my innocent look. The same goes for Mdala and I love his style and the fact that he is way too calculative and doesn’t spill blood like any other thug we know. He deals with the psychology of mankind until one gives in.”

‘Gomora’s MaZet : ‘I almost studied music’

The talented actress Siphesihle Ndaba tells True Love Magazine how she joined Gomora as Mazet, that she grew up in Mofolo, Soweto, and that she was raised by her single mom along with her two brothers.
“Although we didn’t have it easy financially, my mom was a resourceful woman — she got subsidies from the government to ensure that we attended good schools. Owing to my academic record, I was accepted into the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls (OWLAG) from Grade 10 to matric.”

She also tells the publication that she almost studied for a Bachelor in Music as she was a music student at OWLAG, played in the Johannesburg Schools Orchestra, and also took part in the school’s annual musical.
“A last-minute change derailed my plan. After a conversation with someone, I realised that a music degree wouldn’t work out, so I decided to broaden my scope.”
The Soweto-born actress Siphesihle Ndaba also tells True Love that she took part in the musical I’m An Emotional Creature in 2015 and that solidified her love affair with the performance arts.
“I then studied towards a Bachelor of Social Sciences at Rhodes University, and that allowed me enough time to figure out what I wanted to do.”
“I was initially torn between the arts and commerce but ended up triple-majoring in psychology, drama, and economics. One of my highlights was writing and directing a production on rape culture on campus for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown while doing my second year.”

“I was supposed to do my Masters in Arts Management … but that would have meant being at Rhodes full time for another two years. I was ready to do it until I auditioned for Gomora. I received a call-back while on an academic travel bursary to London. Luckily, I was allowed to self-tape, and the producers liked me. When I returned, I re-auditioned, and once again, they loved and wanted to work with me.”
