Natasha Joubert has hinted that she could return to Miss Universe if she wanted to

Despite the Miss Universe organisers explicitly saying that contestants may not enter more than once, Miss SA Natasha Joubert has implied that this was not true.

The beauty queen made the statement in an interview with Afrikaans radio station RSG on Friday, 18 August.

Natasha – who was crowned on Sunday night – previously placed in the Top 3 in 2020. A few months later, she represented Mzansi at Miss Universe. This week, Natasha Joubert has embarked on her Miss SA media run with dozens of interviews across multiple media platforms.

In several of them, the brunette beauty has claimed that she’s chosen not to compete on an international stage again. Instead, she would focus on her reign as Miss SA.

Natasha was left disappointed after she did not place in the Top 21 at the Miss Universe pageant. According to the marketing graduate, this led her into a deep depression. It also led her to pick herself up and give Miss SA another shot. When RSG’s Eloise Cupido asked her if she could consider competing at the international pageant again, Natasha said: “It’s not that I can’t, Miss Universe did allow me to come back, and I can go to Miss Supranational too.

“But my choice is Miss SA; I am here for the people”.A snippet of Natasha’s RSG interview was posted on a pageant fan page PageantReels. The account shared in its caption: “Natasha Joubert was allowed to return to Miss Universe and also had the opportunity to go to Miss Supranational. But she turned down the opportunity to fulfill her duty as Miss South Africa and let her sister [runner-up] represent SA at Miss Universe and Miss Supranational”.

But confusion arose when another fan page – MissUUpdates – claimed that this was essentially a misunderstanding.

According to the Miss Universe fan page, Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil revealed in an IG DM that Natasha’s remarks were “lost in translation.” Unsurprisingly, the post was swiftly deleted.

However, it was seen by pageant enthusiast Rina Hendriks who shared on her IG Stories: “This is a lie. She [Natasha] was not allowed back to Miss Universe. Why is she lying, please?”
