Mourners gather to bid final farewell to Zoleka Mandela

JOHANNESBURG – Mourners gathered at the Bryanston Methodist Church on Friday, to bid their final farewell to renowned author and activist Zoleka Mandela.
Family, friends, and politicians were among those who came to pay their last respects at the private funeral service.


 

 

 

 

 

Mandela, the granddaughter of anti-apartheid heroes Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away at the age of 43 earlier this week.

She had a prolonged battle with cancer, often taking her social media followers along her emotional journey.While the church doors were closed to the public and the media, the hymns from the choir inside could be heard echoing.

The Madikizela-Mandela family and those close to Mandela paid tribute to the outspoken writer and activist.

Among the mourners in attendance were Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, Advocate Dali Mpofu, and African National Congress (ANC) deputy secretary-general Nomvula Mokonyane.

Mandela’s four children as well as her nephews and nieces were expected to deliver tributes.

RIP: Inside Zoleka Mandela’s heartbreaking funeral – Till we meet again

The 43-year-old mum of six died on Monday, 25 September after a year-long struggle with cancer.Her family and friends arrived at the service dressed in white.


Politicians, Julius Malema, Nomvula Mokonyane, and Panyaza Lefusi are also in attendance. The private funeral is only open to people who knew the author.Zoleka’s brother, Zwelabo Mandela told the publication on Thursday, 28 September that she wanted to be buried quickly.The family is still coming to terms with our loss whilst being proactive in delivering a dignified send-off. As per her request, we’ve had to act relatively quickly in order to get this done.“Zoleka was very intentional in the manner in which she navigated life and so it’s our job to have our actions reflect that through this difficult time,” he said.

She will be laid to rest at the Fourways Memorial Park in Joburg, alongside Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, Zenani Mandela, and Zindzi Mandela.

Msaki to join Black Coffee at Madison Square Garden

South African singer Asanda Lusaseni Mvana best known as Msaki took to Instagram and announced that she will be heading to New York City to join international disc jockey Black Coffee –real name Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo at the Madison Square Garden on 7 October.

Black Coffee will be making history as the first South African to headline the Madison Square Garden. The Grammy Award-winning disc jockey will fly the South African flag high at the venue with a few local artists he mentioned in the lineup for his iconic performance.

Msaki was showered with praise on her social media page after announcing that she would be performing at the Madison Square Garden on Black Coffee’s big night.

“Today marks an exceptional moment. Stepping out of hibernation to be part of a special show for my big bro’s send-off at Altitude Beach in Sandton. I will be joining him at his monumental Madison Square Garden Show in New York City on the 7th of October,” she penned.

Earlier this year, Ticket Master, shared the ticket details to see Black Coffee at the iconic Madison Square Garden venue. Attendees can expect to pay anything between $54.84 (an estimated R1 000) to $103 (an estimated R1 900) to see the Drive hitmaker behind the decks.
