Life behind bars: Dr Nandipha misses a special family occasion

Incarcerated Doctor, Nandipha Magudumana is currently still behind bars at Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Kroonstad – this of course follows her arrest in Tanzania in April this year with her boyfriend, rapist and murder, Thabo Bester, and it appears she has missed yet another family occasion.Earlier this month, Dr Nandipha did not satisfy the court enough for her to be released on bail. In the ruling, Magistrate Estelle de Lange said she was “a definite flight risk.” Magudumana faces several serious criminal charges including fraud, corruption, violating a corpse, defeating the ends of justice, aiding and abetting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, concealing an escaped offender, and arson.

Just two weeks after she was been denied bail, she missed yet another glorious family occasion, ZiMoja reported. It was reported that Dr Nandipha’s second daughter turned six over the long weekend. Her estranged husband, Dr Mkhuseli Magudumana is said to have thrown the little girl a precious birthday party with her close friends and family members. A family member speaking to the publication was quoted as saying, “The one thing Dr Nandipha did right was choosing her husband as the father of her children. He is a wonderful dad and support structure to those beautiful girls.”

Dr Nandipha is expected to be back in court on 11 October. Her last appearance made it her third failed court application since she was arrested five months ago, Mail & Guardian reported. In handing down the ruling, Magistrate Estelle de Lange is reported to have said that Dr Nandipha appeared to be in “good health” therefore dismissed her application.

“Whenever she appeared before me, she appeared to be well groomed. I’m confident that all her reasonable needs are met during the period of detention,” Langa was quoted as saying.
