The author, activist and granddaughter of the late Nelson Mandela passed away on the evening of Monday, September 25th, surrounded by friends and family.
18 September, Zoleka was admitted into hospital for ongoing treatment for metastatic cancer to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.
Recent scans revealed significant disease progression including brosis in the lungs as well as several emboli.The Mandela family has confirmed through a family statement the death of Zoleka Mandela on Monday evening. She was the grand-daughter of the late former president Nelson Mandela and his late former wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.
Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter, Zoleka Mandela passed away on Monday 25 September. Zoleka was admitted to the he hospital to treat her metastatic cancer to the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord, according to a statement from her family. Her recent scans showed a “significant disease progression” in her lungs. Several emboli were also detected in her scan.
She is said to have passed away surrounded by friends and family members. The Mandela family further extended their gratitude to the medical team that took care of her.

‘I’M TREATABLE’: MORE ABOUT THE LATE PUBLIC FIGURE
Earlier this month, Zoleka Mandela took to her Instagram and shared that had been experiencing chest pains before she was admitted to hospital. She explained that she had a CT Scan and the doctors recommended that she undergoes oral chemotherapy. In her positive spirit, she joked that she was feeling like the “Oros lady” because her face had become puffy.
“17.09.2023 – I had a CT Scan administered a few weeks back, which has shown that I have blood clots as well as Fibrosis in my lung. This explains the chest pains I had been feeling. My Medical Oncologist has recommended blood thinners and Oral Chemo. On the upside, I’m incredibly grateful that I am still treatable.” she wrote.
Her memorial or funeral details have not been shared yet. She is the granddaughter of the late and former South African president Nelson Mandela. She was a mother of six and the daughter of Zindziswa Mandela and Oupa Johannes Mafanyana Seakamela.
