Not just Mapimpi: Anele and Zozi channel Xhosa queens at cultural ceremony

TV personality Anele Mdoda and former Miss Universe Zozi Tunzi have joined Springboks Makazole Mapimpi and Lukhanyo Am in participating in a traditional Xhosa custom in a rural village in the Eastern Cape.

According to social media users, the athletes, TV presenter, and beauty queen were attending a Umgidi ceremony, which marks the triumphant return of initiates.

In pics posted on social media, Anele Mdoda revealed how she travelled to her home in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, to attend a Umgidi ceremony.

The TV star donned a traditional black and white printed garb adorned with beads.

Meanwhile, Makazole Mapimpi and Lukhanyo Am were seen attending a Xhosa ceremony held in the village of Nxahuni.

Both Springboks hail from the Eastern Cape; Makazole grew up in the village of Tsholomnqa, while Lukhanyo comes from Zwelitsha in East London.
