Popular South African actress and humanitarian Nomzamo Mbatha will take the lead in the Sci-fi thriller film Assassin.“I’m nervous because I get to be alongside Bruce Willis,” Nomzamo said.
The 34-year-old actress will be sharing the screen with the legendary Bruce Willis in his final role. The movie will premiere on Showmax on Monday, May 13.The Durban-born SAFTA and Africa Movie Academy Award nominee will be playing the role of Alexa.
A woman who has been mourning because her lover has died, and she hasn’t been able to find the right answers. She’s not afraid to go to the very end to get answers.
Nomzamo said the biggest lesson she learned from Bruce Willis is the beauty of humility.“I enjoyed working with him so much. The fact that you can be the biggest star in the world but still greet everyone on set, taking a moment to make people feel seen, was beautiful to witness. It stuck with me that you lose nothing by being a global superstar and still have humility at your core,” Nomzamo said. She said she wanted to portray a complex character who also experiences surprise in the end. But more than anything else, she wanted to challenge herself in a different genre.
“I loved the idea of delving into thriller and sci-fi genres because I haven’t had a chance to explore them before. When I got the opportunity to sit down with the director after completing all the auditions, we realised that with Sci-fi, thriller, and action, there’s a lot of emotion and heart involved,” she said.
Her first international breakout role was in Eddie Murphy’s Coming 2 America, and now she will take the lead in the current film.
Her diverse characters include Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya, the award-winning film Tell Me Sweet Something and Shaka iLembe, as Queen Nandi, where she was also the executive producer.
