After suffering in silence for some time with her hearing, in a video shared on Instagram on Monday, 10 July, South African singer Nhlanhla Mafu opened up about her “embarrassing” journey of losing her ability to hear.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mafikizolo star Nhlanhla Mafu has had quite a long journey in the entertainment industry. She’s made hit after hit and toured in countries some of us can only dream about. And of course, as a musician, her hearing plays a vital part in her line of work. She has to listen to the right keys being played as well as sing the right keys. She also has to interact with her fans and do various interviews.

The Love Potion hitmaker shared that she has been silently struggling with her hearing and was too ashamed to open up about it to anyone.

“For me, at some point in my life, I felt embarrassed when I had to do interviews and I’m with my partner Theo and he has to always repeat the questions,” Mafu disclosed.

“Even when I was just chilling with friends, sometimes I would just laugh without knowing what people are laughing about or be agreeable basically to everything because I can’t hear and I was really embarrassed to just say I am having this problem,” she added.Nhlanhla Mafu said that she decided to get her ears checked out after realising that the problem would only get worse if it was not attended to.

“I realised that I’m doing this for my own good and I needed to do it because the longer I let it go, the longer my hearing keeps getting worse and worse,” the singer said.

Mafu and her ex-husband of 15 years, Thembinkosi ‘TK’ Nciza divorced in 2019, SABC reported. She has since teased her social media followers with glimpses of her new man on her feed. Her new bae was even included in her Christmas photos where she could be seen with her kids, smiling from ear to ear.
