Nandi Madida and Lawrence Maleka were announced as the hosts of the 2022 South African Music Awards

One of the most important days in South African music, the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) is coming soon. The date of the ceremony is the 28th of August 2022 and the hosts are Nandi Madida and Lawrence Maleka. As per usual the ceremony will be broadcast live on SABC1 at 20:00.

Nandi and Lawrence are both very talented presenters and Lawrence has proven to be an immaculate host. Nandi on the other hand is not too familiar with live hosting but her talent is undoubtedly magnetic.

What makes the two hosting the ceremony even more interesting is that Zakes Bantwini who is Nandi’s husband is nominated for 7 awards on the night. It will be a night where their level of professionalism will be tested, especially if Zakes wins and they have to celebrate.
Nandi is chuffed and excited

The fashion designer and artist Nandi is super excited about getting the gig. She expressed that in her many years of singing, she only received her first SAMA in the year 2020. At the time she couldn’t conceive the idea of hosting the award ceremony literally two years later.

The SAMA’s made her one of the presenters deliberately. Reason one is that she has incredible hosting potential as she has years of experience in the industry. Reason number two is that August is Women’s month and they had to have a feminine figure on stage.
SAMA’s after Covid-19

During and after the pandemic, the hosting of the SAMA’s changed drastically due to social distancing and lesser people being allowed in events. The award ceremony has had 2 hosts since 2020. In 2020 it was the actress Dineo Langa and the comedian Donovan Goliath. In 2021 it was the presenter and choreographer Bontle Modiselle and Lawrence Maleka.

In 2019, the ceremony was spectacular with an array of hosts that bought something fresh to the stage. They had the late Bob Mabena, the radio personality Twasa Seoke, Metro FM news reader Melani Bala, the rapper Khuli Chana, the comedian Mpho Popps and the international actress Nomzamo Mbatha. In 2018 the list was shorter but there were three hosts Somizi Mhlongo, Dineo Ranaka and Mpho Popps.
