Mzwakhe Mbuli declines Ukhozi FM’s interview request, see why

Mzwakhe Mbuli, known as the People’s Poet, has given the South African Broadcasting Corporation the middle finger. An interview with him was requested, but he did not take part in it.

According to statements made by Mzwakhe to the Daily Sun, the UKhozi FM producer Thembeka Zondo contacted him over the phone on April 17th.

“The producer of this morning show called me in the evening and asked whether I would be interested in doing an interview. The rumors that I was unwell and fighting for my life were supposed to be the primary topic of discussion during the interview. I had the opportunity to appear on their breakfast show on Tuesday morning, but I chose not to do so.

“I actually consulted with my management, and we felt that they were being opportunistic. He stated that there was something nefarious about the request that Ukhozi made.

“I say this because they never showed any interest in my most recent album, Vuka Darkie, and they never played it. However, they did not waste any time inquiring about the state of my health. The fact that I was invited to launch this album at SABC studios, but they do not want to play it, is something that I find very strange.”

The previous year, I did submit it, but they never played it. This censoring is so mysterious that there is no explanation even for it. In addition, I had already given the reason as to why I ended up at the hospital, and I was confused as to why they needed to further investigate that story. It’s tit for tat, and there is a reaction for every action,” he explained.

Mzwakhe has stated that he has nothing against the hosts or producers of the radio program; rather, his ire is directed at the SABC.

“Requests show that presenters are innocent, but they are afraid to defy the orders,” he stated. “As a result, they are unable to play my album.”

Mmoni Seapolelo, acting group executive for corporate affairs and marketing at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), confirmed the interview but did not explain why it was being conducted.

She explained, “The SABC can confirm that Mr. Mbuli was contacted for an interview, however, he declined, which he was at liberty to do.” Said
