Take James for example: He’s a dynamic, suave and successful businessman, but he’s also found himself in storylines that border on hilarity.
Dingaan Mokebe says that is part of the charm of his character. He’s this strong-willed man in the boardroom and almost the same at home – he tries to control situations but he gets in over his head because his heart lands him in a lot of trouble.
James doesn’t compromise when it comes to his family and business. What I don’t like is that he can be gullible at home. That deluded behaviour puts him in the firing line at work because his enemies circle like sharks that’ve smelled blood in the water.
But there’s a reason for that vulnerability, adds Dingaan. This role challenges me on a daily basis. You’ve got to remember that James’s child was raped and ended up committing suicide.
Mentally preparing for a role like that is tough, especially if you haven’t personally been through something like that.
It wasn’t difficult to piece his character together though. My stepdad inspires a great portion of James and how he is – only the good aspects.
My stepdad is the kind of man who always thinks before he speaks or does anything. I knew that I wanted James to be just like my stepdad.
To be a man and step up for his family when needs be, but also to know right from wrong. The year ahead is going to be important for. Lots of drama and tears and happiness. It’ll bring new things for James!
