King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini has distanced himself from allegations that the recognition of his right to the Zulu throne was accomplished through his friendship with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s son Andile.
The first son of the late king Zwelithini, Prince Simakade kaZwelithini, who wants to be the Zulu king, and their uncle, Prince Mbonisi, are heading to court to challenge king Misuzulu’s ascension to the throne and to stop his coronation.
Part of their argument is that President Ramaphosa was influenced by his son Andile to issue a recognition certificate to king Misuzulu in March this year.
Scrolla.Africa has learned that there are audio recordings of a meeting between king Misuzulu and Andile that might be released this Friday.
King Misuzulu has come out guns blazing, saying that he has no friendship with Andile and that in fact he has never met him.
Misuzulu kaZwelithini responded to these allegations through Prince Afrika of Onkweni.
“His Majesty King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini denies having a meeting with Mr Andile Ramaphosa to influence his ascension to the throne. The media has circulated false reports about a purported meeting between the two that is factually incorrect,” said Prince Afrika.
Prince Mbonisi of eKhwezi is heading to the Supreme Court of Appeal to block King Misuzulu’s coronation.
Prince Simakade has also filed papers at the North Gauteng High Court to challenge President Ramaphosa to set aside Misuzulu’s recognition as the Zulu king.
In March a video of king Misuzulu and Andile Ramaphosa with other unidentified people at Kyalami, was circulated all over social media.
Prince Afrika said that the king has no need to rely on Andile Ramaphosa to influence such a matter.
He said the matter of ascension is a cultural Zulu matter, and all matters and processes defined therein are well versed and practised in the Zulu tradition.
He said the king believed that there are those who want to tarnish his name and that of the president.
