Miss Supranational 2022: Lalela Mswane Makes history

On Friday, Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane represented Mzansi at the 13th Miss Supranational pageant in Strzelecki Park Amphitheatre in Nowy Sącz, Poland. The 25 year old made history as she became the first South African Black woman to win the title.

The judges were impressed by her national costume dress that paid tribute to her Zulu heritage. Her dress was designed by Cape Town-based Lloyd Kandlin.

When she was asked about why people fear losing things they don’t even have in the Top 5 question and answer, Mswane spoke about the importance of having an attitude of gratitude. She said, “I used to suffer from losing things that I don’t have. It stems from fear of perfection or pressures of the world and trying to seek from happiness that you don’t have… An attitude of gratitude should be something that we instil every day.”
