Messages pour in for former Amazulu coach, Benni McCarty.

When former Amazulu football coach Benni McCarthy received letters of thanks from people whose lives he had impacted as a superb player, he was genuinely moved.

Many young people hold Benni McCarty in high regard because he coached the Amazulu team to the national championship. However, his many on-field achievements, including winning the Champions League with Porto, will make him a national hero in South Africa, especially among older soccer fans.

When asked to name people who have inspired them, South Africans flocked to coach Benni McCarty after reading about him in the most current issue of Huawei.

“Benni McCarty inspired me to pursue a career in athletics, and it was thanks to him that I grew to like playing soccer. I owe my current professional achievement as a soccer coach to him “which prompted a response from one of the other contestants.

“For our young people, he stands as a role model for the value of dreaming big and working hard to achieve them. He’s perfect to replace Clive Barry as Bafana Bafana’s head coach “said another competitor.

Even if his standing with fans of opposing teams is less than stellar, he is universally held in high regard at home on issues unrelated to soccer.
