There are some celebrities who are so etched into our collective consciousness that as time goes by, we don’t even realize that, well, they’ve actually totally disappeared. We remember them, but the entertainment world moves so quickly that they soon slip from our minds and we’re on to the next big thing.
Being utterly forgotten after a few months after releasing a few singles that are at the top of the charts is the worst feeling in the world.
Some female celebrities in the entertainment industry have tried to make a comeback but failed, while others have given in to the pressure and competition of the business.
Denise Zimba
Denise is popularly known for her role as Mary Gumede on Generations. The actress was blessed with a baby, and it prompted her to disappear from showbiz for a while. She is believed to make a comeback soon.
Zinhle Mabena
She is a South African actress best known for appearing on eKasi: Our Stories as Tshireletso and on Intersexions as Sphesihle. She is married to Robert Ngwenya, and the couple has been blessed with a baby. That made Mabena take a break and focus on bringing up the child and taking care of her family.
The Olsen Twins
From their many, many TV shows and movies to their fashion business, former tween queens Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen seemed to be everywhere in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but we haven’t heard a thing from or about the famous twins in forever. They publicly announced that they were retiring from acting in 2014 and eventually launched two fashion lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James, both of which they still own — although there is nowhere near as much buzz about the brands these days compared with when they launched.
Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz shot to worldwide fame thanks to her starring role in the 1994 comedy The Mask opposite Jim Carrey, and she went on to enjoy a hugely successful Hollywood career.
She’s best known for her roles in There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, and voicing Princess Fiona in the Shrek animated franchise, decided to take a step back from her glittering 20-year career.
Her last starring role was in the big-screen adaptation of the musical Annie in 2014, and she told Gywneth Paltrow’s Goop podcast last year she quit Hollywood and found “peace in my soul”.
Cameron married Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden in 2015, and the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Raddix, in December 2019.
