Sjava was born in Bergville, North-side of Kwa Zulu Natal province. As of 2021 he’s 37 years old, Jabulani was born on 2 December 1983.

Sjava has been writing music since he was a young child.. Sjava was in charge of writing unique lyrics for his all-boy isicathamiya group Abafana baseMpumalanga when he was just eleven years old. In high school, he took composition to a new level by creating songs out of notes and then teaching them to his peers.
