When Afeez Agoro was a baby, his family moved to Lagos.

The tall man was born in Sabo Yaba, a neighborhood in Yaba, a mainland suburb of Lagos State. Agoro is currently 45 years old, having been born on December 13, 1975. At birth, he weighed 8 pounds and looked like any other normal newborn. There wasn’t a noticeable spurt in his development until much later. Although he was born in Sabo Yaba, Afeez and his family eventually relocated to the neighboring suburb of Akoka Yaba when he was approximately seven years old. He attended school and grew up in the same place, Akoka Yaba.

Afeez Agoro grew up with his brothers and sisters. The tall man is the only child of his late father’s second marriage, and hence the last child born to the family. There’s a chance he has half- or step-siblings from his dad’s previous marriage.

Around the age of 19, he began his rapid growth.

When Afeez Agoro was born, he seemed like any other kid; there was no reason to think he would end up being a giant. He wasn’t even one of the tallest kids when he was younger. It was revealed in an interview with The Nation Media that Agoro gave in 2019 that he was not the tallest boy in his secondary school. He was a normal-sized kid.

But, after finishing secondary school at the age of 19, he started to feel sick. No one could explain why he suddenly grew in stature due to his condition. He was sick a few occasions during that time, but his rapid height gain persisted. A sudden growth spurt caused him to quickly surpass his peers in height. Many who had known him previously were shocked, especially those who hadn’t seen him for some time due to his illness. His sudden growth shocked some of his high school classmates, who hadn’t seen him since he graduated, he told The Nation.

Because of the unusual nature of Agoro’s growth spurt and illness, his father worried about his son’s well-being. So he took the kid to a bunch of clinics, but doctors stated they couldn’t find anything wrong with him. On the other hand, Afeez’s rapid height gain was causing his parents some concern. In spite of doctors’ best efforts, he continued to grow abnormally tall, and he eventually towered over everyone he knew. His present height of 7 feet, 4 inches makes him the de facto tallest man in Nigeria.
