Mbongeni Ngema, a musician, songwriter, and playwright, has founded an organization to combat gender-based violence.

Ngema, who inaugurated his Legacy Tour on Thursday, said the goal of his Istimela Sase Zola [Train From Zola] programme was to encourage young men to respect women and girls.

“I felt it was my responsibility as a prominent figure and a leader in society to tell the young people that this is not the way of life.” “What could prohibit us from overcoming gender-based violence if we were able to destroy apartheid?” he said.

“Through this piece, I am expressing my belief that all men must board this train.” This train is designed to teach us how to be better family members and responsible adults so that when we have boys, they will grow up in a different setting than we did.”

Ngema will also utilize his music to raise awareness about GBV among guys. The proceeds from his tour will be dedicated to the GBV fight.

“I will be addressing the epidemic of gender-based violence as well as the growth of young artists during the tour.”

“If I, a person who grew up in extreme poverty, could reach the highest levels in the world, youngsters from squatter camps can achieve the same.” They should not believe they are incapable of completing the task.

To kick off the holiday season, Ngema will conduct a residency at The Venue in Melrose Arch starting next Friday.

The Mbongeni Ngema Foundation stated, “The residency serves as the commencement of a much-anticipated homecoming musical adventure that will end in a national and continental tour.”
