Radio Hall of Fame
There’s no doubt that Mark Pilgrim belongs in the radio hall of fame for his career that has spanned three decades.
After a stint n Wits Campus Radio, Mark joined 5FM in 1995. He later hosted shows on 947 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 KFM
After retiring from radio in 2014, the award-winning DJ changed his mind and made a comeback to Jozi’s t 102.7.
Family life
In 2020, Mark Pilgrim and his wife of 13 years Nicole Torres announced their divorce. The couple are parents to two daughters Tayla-Jean and Alyssa
Recently, Mark started dating a woman named Adrienne, whom he met “through mutual friends”. Adrienne makes a regular feature on Mark’s social media platforms
He told You magazine: “My aim is to walk them down the aisle when they get married someday, so I’ve got to stick around”.
“I want to go on holiday with Adrienne and the girls and explore places I haven’t been to. And I want to be on the radio for a long time because this is my happy place.”
Hosting ‘Big Brother‘
Mark Pilgrim may be known for his radio skills, but he also had a stint hosting one of SA’s most entertaining reality TV shows: Big Brother Africa and Big Brother South Africa.
Mark hosted the first two seasons of both shows.
CANCER AND FIGHTING BACK
Health woes
In 1988 at 18 years old, Mark Pilgrim was diagnosed with aggressive stage three testicular cancer. Twenty years later, the DJ suffered a heart attack in the doctor’s office, leaving him with permanent damage.
In 2022, Mark was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, for which he is currently undergoing treatment.
Mark is keeping his fans and followers updated on his cancer journey on his YouTube account and social media platforms. He’s also maintained a positive mindset and regularly posts about “visualising healing”.
Motivational speaker and published author
In addition to TV and radio, Mark Pilgrim is also a published author of his inspiring 2015 memoir called Behind The Baldness.
He also advocates for cancer awareness through various charity endeavors and doubles as a motivational speaker.
