Limpopo man due in court for allegedly murdering his son with an axe

Father murders son

was arrested for the murder of his 35-year-old son with an axe.

According to the SowetanLive, the man is due to appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested on Tuesday 24 December 2019.

The deceased, identified as Madimetja John Ledwaba, was staying with his parents on the same premises. It is believed that the father and his son were drinking together in the back room on Monday night.

The deceased’s body was discovered by his mother on Tuesday morning.

Police confirm gruesome scene

Police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo said police found the body of the deceased lying in the backyard of the home.

Father murders son in Cape Town in separate incident

SAPS detectives in Kuilsrivier, Cape Town, charged a 59-year-old man with the alleged murder of his son on Sunday 22 December 2019.

According to the African News Agency (ANA), the suspect was reported missing with his 12-year-old son in Kuilsrivier on 30 November 2019.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said: “As part of the police investigation into their disappearance, pictures and details were subsequently circulated in a bid to locate their whereabouts. Police in Van Rhynsdorp, a small town on the West Coast, recognised the father from circulated photographs of the two.”

Father ‘confesses’ to murder

The father was taken in and transported to Cape Town for questioning. On Saturday 21 December 2019, he confessed to killing his son and pointed out where the body was buried.

Detectives, with the support of other crime scene experts, retrieved the decomposed body near a canal in Soneike, in Kuilsrivier, on Saturday afternoon.

DNA tests to determine whether the body was indeed that of the 12-year-old missing boy would be conducted soon. The father, a Namibian national, is in custody and would appear in court soon, said Potelwa.
