KZN Family Have Unanswered Questions For Prince Mshiyeni Hospital After Their Swapping Of Children
A KwaZulu-Natal family has questions that the hospital cannot answer as children are swapped in a hospital called Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital last month.

The family of Plaza said according to the mother of the child who is seventeen years old, who was discharged from the hospital together with her baby on May the 9th, got a call on the twelfth of May to bring the child urgently to the hospital. The baby’s grandmother Phumzile Hlongwana said that when her daughter got to the hospital they took her baby away and told her there was a mixup with another mother who is also Seventeen years old.

Now her daughter had to wait for DNA test results which were to determine her correct baby. While waiting for the fifteen days to pass for the results to come out, they got another call from the Hospital to come to the hospital. When they got to the hospital they were told that her daughter was given the wrong baby, another one that was given to another mother is hers. Only one result was available that said the baby which she was given at first was not hers. It pained her to learn that her daughter’s rightful baby was given to somebody else and the same baby died in the hospital after it was taken away by their mothers.

The hospital just told them that the dead baby was her daughter’s baby but there is no evidence given to them that proves that. The family has so many questions but no answers available. How can two different children have one mother’s name on their wrists yet they are not twins? How can the two babies be mixed-up, yet they were born a few hours apart and were born in different wards. They asked all these questions but never got answers. The other thing that makes her sad is that the midwife is still working as if nothing happened, her daughter used to see her while she was going for her antenatal classes.
