The late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain/ goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa murder case is scheduled to continue on Monday, 5 September 2022.

It has been 5-months since the trial started in April.
Meyiwa was shot dead in October 2014, in Vosloorus, while he was visiting his then girlfriend and his child’s mother, singer and reality TV star Kelly Khumalo.
In the house that fateful day when Meyiwa’s life was claimed, there was Kelly present, her younger sister, Zandi, their mother Ntombi, Zandi’s then boyfriend Longwe Twala, Meyiwa’s friends Tumelo Madlala and Mthokozisi Thwala, and Kelly’s his son Christian and her daughter with Meyiwa, Thingo.
However, according to several reports it has been learnt there was another person in the house, Maggy Phiri, who is alleged to have tempered with the crime scene, Maggy is accused of cleaning where Meyiwa was killed.

At the time of his death, the police believed that three men had been involved in his murder. According to the charge sheet produced in court, two armed men allegedly broke in at Ntombi’s house, demanding that they are given valuables.
However, there was a confrontation with the robbers, and Meyiwa was shot dead as he tried to protect Kelly.
6-years after his death, five suspects were arrested in relation with his murder in 2020, they are charged with counts of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunition.
The murder trial began on 11 April 2022, the five men all pleaded not guilty on all counts.
Claiming they are being used as scapegoats to protect the real killer.
It seems that the truth is far from been uncovered who really killed Senzo Meyiwa.
The case was delayed after it was discovered there is a second docket which was opened in 2019, which recommends charging the witnesses who were in the house when Meyiwa was killed.
Kelly Khumalo has since received backlash, accused of killing Meyiwa.
Defence lawyer advocate Teffo Malesela claimed that Kelly mistakenly shot Meyiwa dead using a revolver belonging to her sister’s then boyfriend.
