Multi-award-winning actor Israel Matseke-Zulu reportedly just had one of his legs amputated.
An article in Sunday World has revealed that a source close to the actor said that he had an operation at a Sandton hospital two weeks ago.
Matseke-Zulu who’s been open about his struggle with gangrene, also revealed in several interviews that he asked Gomora producers to let him go.
He said he was struggling to get around on set and was using a wheelchair during his last scenes.
The publication also adds that Matseke-Zulu spoke to them on Friday (10 December) and confirmed the operation on his right leg.
He also said he was recovering from the surgery and he is surrounded by his loved one’s at home.
Fans of the veteran actor were devasted when Don got killed last month on Gomora.
The show also paid a subtle tribute to Matseke-Zulu this past week in its storyline with his on-screen son Teddy (Sicelo Buthelezi).
In the episode, Teddy is seen polishing his father, Don’s shoes as a way of dealing with his recent grief.
A source from the telenovela also hinted that producers are toying with the idea of bringing his character back next year (2022) after he makes full recovery.

Matseke-Zulu’s character crippled his co-star’s character, Mazet before he got shot and killed by his baby mama, Zodwa (Sannah Mchunu).
Don shot and crippled Mazet (Siphesihle Ndaba) who is now in a wheelchair and is struggling with her new condition.
