Is Unathi getting cancelled already? She just lost another gig

Former Khaya FM radio personality Unathi Nkayi, has just lost another gig. It has been reported by entertainment commentator Phil Mphela that GQ Magazine has decided to replace her for the upcoming Man of The Year Awards.

When things start to go badly, it’s a snowball effect and Unathi Nkayi can attest to that. The radio personality has been replaced for this year’s GQ Men of The Year Awards after her controversial termination at Khaya FM. It seems as though brands nowadays don’t want to be affiliated with any controversy and are quick to make decisions that will best benefit the brand. The timing of the replacement is odd and raises a lot of questions about the brand itself. Why did they announce her after the allegations came to light? Why didn’t they continue with her? So many unanswered questions but it’s clear now that if you do wrong in the public’s eye, you need to suffer the consequences. With idols renewing for a new season next year, will she keep her job or suffer the same fate her former colleague Somizi Mhlongo suffered?!

The term “Cancelled Culture” has become very prominent on social media over the past 24 months. The likes of Katlego Maboe, DJ Fresh, Euphonik, Somizi, and so many more other celebrities have been faced with it. People’s careers have been destroyed by it and for some, it is hard to come back without being labeled. As a society, there is a lot that needs to change, because Internet trolls are quick to get celebrities into trouble and see them suffer. What happened to ubuntu?

I think its unfair on Unathi as the brand announced her after the seed allegations had surfaced. It could be that they discussed it before the allegations came out, but dropping her last-minute like that is so uncalled for and unprofessional.
