There’s no denying that Rasta, the artist has painted several questionable celebrity portraits in 2023….but his image of the late Zahara may have taken the cake.

 
So much so, that Minister of Arts of Culture Zizi Kodwa had to step in….Ahead of Zahara’s East London funeral on Saturday, 23 December, Rasta – real name Lebani Sirenje – revealed not one, but three portraits of the singer.

However, it was safe to say that not one of them resembled the star, remembered for his hit debut album Loliwe.“Rasta needs to be stopped. This is offensive”, posted one tweep. Another added: “What Rasta is doing is no less than desecrating.”Zahara’s funeral took place at the East London Convention Centre and was attended by hundreds of mourners.

Amongst the dignitaries who attended was Minister of Sports, Arts & Culture Zizi Kodwa.
