Season 18 of Idols South Africa promised to be an epic season and surely they are delivering. Nozi one of the contestants got recognition from award winning American Superstar Jennifer Hudson. Jhud shared Nozi’s perfomance on her social media plartforms, it has been liked over a 100 thousand times on facebook and viewed over a million times.
On yesterday’s episode the top 5 was announced, crowd favourite Thapelo, Nozi, Tyloner, Zee and Mpilo were announced as season 18 top 5. Saying goodbye to Noxolo.
Although most people might think Thapelo might win the season however there are a lot of things that might make Thapelo not win. Thapelo previously sang with spirit of praise meaning he had a fanbase before entering the show. However Thapelo is really smart with selecting songs, he has never sang anything that challenges his voice. Thapelo sings mostly female songs, which makes it hard to really identify his voice and talent. However he is a great entertainer. Compared to previous male winners of the show Thapelo does not come any close to them.
She might have got Jennifer’s Hudson’s recognition however Nozi fails to stay consistent. She can hit those high notes however the singing sensation fails to select songs that work better with her voice. She’s surely ambitious however she’s still hasn’t reached where she should have by now. At this stage of the competition none should be competing with Nozi. However it seems Nozi doesn’t really know who she is.
Tyloner is the only contestant remaining true to himself, Ty is faithful to his fanbase. Ty understands his voice and what works with it, he has tackled some of the biggest songs and delivered them really well. He has a star quality however he can’t sing like most the guys that didn’t even reach the top 10.
Zee has an extraordinary voice however she too doesn’t know which songs work well with her voice. Zee is 18 years old and probably should be singing the latest songs that excite her age group. She is a child she should be colorful fun and funky. She still needs to unleash herself.
Mpilo sings effortlessly, she’s beautiful and identifies what works well with her voice. However Mpilo always keeps it safe, truth be told she can hit those high notes, she can do a Whitney Houston however it seems her confidence took a knock when she reaches the top 10. She plays it too safe, however to be a star you must take risks.
This means the show is only left with 4 weeks till its finale. The contestants can absolutely try win votes of the left. However Unathi’s absence is highly felt.
