Idols SA is one of the most recognized top television shows in Mzanzi. As usual, the winner gets a cash prize and a record deal. And the latest winner of the show is Trysman Berry who has earned herself a record deal with one of the top record companies in South Africa.
THE Idols SA season 17 winner, Berenike “Berry” Trytsman Berry, has officially joined record label Kalawa Jazmee.
The label announced the news through a statement, formally welcoming Berry.
The 31-year-old mum of four and wife from Cape Town won the singing competition last year, walking away with R1 million in cash, a recording deal with Kalawa, and other prizes.
“It is with great pleasure that we officially welcome Idols SA winner Berry to Kalawa. Berry, who had a stellar season showing incredible range and versatility personified in her hit song Ungowami, joins the top 5 from season 16 as a core part of the artists that will continue Kalawa’s track record of making impactful music,” it read.
Musicians, directors, and co-founders Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa and Lynne “Mahoota” Sibika said they would not box Berry.
“We don’t box our artists to one genre. We allow them space to grow and develop as artists,” said Oskido.
“The music industry has taken a different turn. Music is released every hour so to stand out, one requires loyalty to their brand as well as versatility,” said Mahoota.
Berry said she was excited about joining the label.
“I am grateful that I have entered a space and record label of legends who have a record of making great music and the university that has built superstars. I am quite sure that my brand is in safe hands,” she said.
