Back in January of this year, the talented South African music producer and DJ, Black Coffee, was involved in a serious travel accident while on a flight to his show in Mar Del Plata. The incident left him with some injuries, as he shared in a statement on his social media.
Black Coffee opened up about the accident for the first time during an interview on My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose. Recounting the terrifying moments, he shared, “I literally saw my life flashing; that was the most painful thing about the accident,” he told Tbose. “It wasn’t so quick, and I woke up in the hospital. It happened for like a minute, giving me time to think. I had time to pray while it was happening.”
The incident occurred during his tour of South America. Due to unforeseen circumstances, he had to change airlines for this specific trip. “It looked old, like no one had been using it. I felt uneasy,” Black Coffee explained.
Describing the moment of the accident, he said, “The plane was cruising, and I was listening to a gospel album. I reclined my seat, took a nap, and then I woke up to the plane shaking violently. I opened my eyes, and everyone was trying to hold on,” he recalls the horrific incident.
“It was moving so violently that I fell on the floor. There was a gospel song playing on my headphones, repeating Hallelujah. It felt like I had these angels singing to save me at that moment. I was on the floor, got up, and sat on the chair, trying to hold on. The plane just dipped so fast, and I hit the ceiling with my head, and I was unconscious for a couple of seconds. Shortly after, I was on the floor again, and it was simmering down. The plane inside was so destroyed—still flying—the oxygen masks were rolling.”
The pilot made an emergency landing in Uruguay, where Black Coffee underwent a 5-hour surgery to repair his upper spinal cord, which was damaged in the incident.
