Shepherd Bushire has surrendered to Malawi Police where he had fled as a self-proclaimed prophet and church leader. Bushiri is wanted in South Africa for money laundering.
The arrest was announced by the Interpol international police organization to police spokesman James Kadadzera. Kadadzera said that the police took the couple’s statements, but did not know when they were to appear before the judge.
Mr Bushiri is a prophet and head of his Church of Enlightened Christian Gathering, which is a worldwide prophet with over 70 branches. In South Africa, he and his wife and two others have been accused of theft, money laundering and fraud of USD 6.6 million.
In South Africa, what the Prophet seeks is a fair trial. There was no evidence that he had a fair trial there said Nyondo. The escape of Bushiri coincided with the official visit of President Lazarus Chakwera to South Africa which fueled suspicions that the president knew about his escape.
